The Annual Parish
Meeting was held in the Village Hall on 17 April 2002 under the Chairmanship
of Mr Tony Sach with eight other Councillors being present together with two
Police Officers and 24 members of the public.
The following is a brief resume of what took place.
Community Policing - concern was expressed that vandalism was still rife in
the village and police response times seemed not to have improved. Youth
nuisance continued to be a problem and the police were requested to look at
improving their telephone answering system at New Street. The good news was
that P C Adams ‘beat’ had been reduced to cover Writtle, Roxwell and
Highwood losing the urban areas of Beechenlea, Westlands and Waterhouse
Lane. The Traffic Police were also aware of motor cycle speeding and were
targetting accordingly.
Annual Reports All Committee Chairmen presented annual reports
covering Executive & Finance, Allotments, Development, Greens, Highways
and Playing Fields.
Concerns were expressed by parishioners regarding the litter clearance
contract, Chelmsford Borough Council’s verge grass cutting, surface water
in Mayfield Road, ford at Cow Watering Lane, new electricity sub station at
Lordship Road and Writtle College expansion especially the application to
create a new reservoir.
Accounts Draft figures were produced in line with the new accounting regime
recently introduced by the District Audit Commission and it was agreed to
provide a more detailed breakdown of these figures.
